Prof. Sankaran Venkataraman ( 17th Batch )

Prof. Sankaran Venkataraman graduated from IIM Calcutta in 1982 (17th Batch) and joined Wipro Ltd. as an early employee in its Information Technology start-up in Bangalore. In 1984, he left to pursue a PhD in entrepreneurship at the University of Minnesota. Upon completing his doctorate, he joined the Wharton School as the Paul Yeakel Term Assistant Professor. He was the first holder of the Bruggeman Distinguished Chair at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1998, he joined the Darden Graduate School of Business, where he currently serves as the MasterCard Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research. Professor Venkataraman is an award-winning teacher and a world-renowned scholar in entrepreneurship. His research has been recognized as Foundational by the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, and one of his papers received the prestigious Decade Award from the Academy of Management Review. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Business Venturing, a leading journal in entrepreneurship, for fourteen years. He has also served as an educator and consultant to numerous organizations—both large and small—as well as to government agencies.
