Prof. Sumit Sarkar is a PGDM alumnus from the 17th batch, with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi. He worked for Tata Consultancy Services for a couple of years before pursuing a PhD in Computer and Information Systems from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. After spending the first eight years of his academic career at Louisiana State University, he moved to the University of Texas at Dallas, where he currently holds the Charles and Nancy Davidson Chair and is a Professor of Information Systems in the Naveen Jindal School of Management. His research interests span personalisation and recommendation technologies, privacy, sponsored search, crowdsourcing, and information quality, among others. He has published extensively in premier academic journals and served in several leadership roles for premier conferences, journals, and professional societies. He has been a visiting faculty member at the Indian School of Business and the National University of Singapore, as well as a visiting scientist at IBM Research Laboratories. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Information Systems Society at INFORMS. An avid sports fan, he is also an enthusiastic participant in tennis, squash, and golf.
