Prof. Ananth Raman ( 23rd Batch )

Prof. Ananth Raman, an alumnus of IIM Calcutta (23rd Batch, 1988), began his academic journey after a brief professional stint in India by joining the doctoral program at the Wharton School. He joined the Harvard Business School as an Assistant Professor in 1993 and progressed through the academic ranks, becoming an Associate Professor in 1998, a Full Professor in 2002, and a Chair Professor in 2003.
His research focuses on operations and supply chain management, with particular emphasis on retail operations. Since 1998, he has co-directed the Consortium for Operational Excellence in Retailing with Professor Marshall Fisher of the Wharton School. Prof. Raman has authored numerous scholarly articles, served in editorial roles for leading academic journals, and has been recognized for his academic contributions as a Fellow of the Production and Operations Management Society.
At Harvard Business School, Prof. Raman has designed and taught courses for MBA students, doctoral candidates, and executive participants. He currently chairs the Owner/President Program, the longest-running executive education program at HBS. He has also authored several widely used case studies and has consulted extensively with organisations worldwide. In addition, he is the founder and board member of 4R Systems, a venture-backed software company focused on improving retail inventory planning, and has previously served on the board of Cumberland Farms, a family-owned convenience store chain in the United States.
