A National Workshop on Data Carpentry for Library Services organized by B. C. Roy Memorial Library, IIM Calcutta (29–31 July 2022)

The B. C. Roy Memorial Library at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta successfully organized a Three-Day National Workshop on “Data Carpentry for Library Services” from 29–31 July 2022. The workshop aimed to equip Library and Information Science professionals with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in modern data management techniques.

The programme focused on enhancing participants’ skills in data wrangling, data cleaning, data reconciliation, and named-entity recognition using open-source tools. Through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and practical case studies, participants were introduced to emerging data science practices that are increasingly relevant in library and research environments.

Distinguished resource persons, including Prof.  Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kalyani, West Bengal; Prof. Bhaskar Mukherjee, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; and Dr. Narayan Chandra Ghosh, Librarian, B. C. Roy Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, shared their expertise and guided participants through practical applications of data tools for enhancing library services and effective research data management.

The workshop provided an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, professional networking, and capacity building, enabling LIS professionals to adapt to the evolving data-driven landscape of modern libraries and information systems
