The One Day Regional (Eastern) Training Programme on Plagiarism Detection Software PDS (URKUND) has been successfully organized at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) on 21st August 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The programme has been jointly organized by the INFLIBNET Centre and IIM Calcutta under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It has been conducted for administrative users from Universities and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) across the states of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
The event has been graciously inaugurated by the Hon’ble Director, Prof. Anju Seth, who has lit the ceremonial lamp and has addressed the gathering. The programme has been conducted in the esteemed presence of Prof. Bodhibrata Nag (Dean–Academic), Prof. Ramendra Singh (Chairperson, LCSC), Mr. Gurinder Singh Malik (Advisor, MHRD), Mr. Manoj Kumar K., Scientist E (CS), INFLIBNET Centre, and Dr. N. C. Ghosh, Librarian, IIM Calcutta, all of whom have shared their valuable insights and guidance with the participants.
The training has aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of plagiarism, the importance of academic integrity, and the effective utilization of the PDS – URKUND software. Mr. Manoj Kumar K. has elaborated on the objectives of the initiative and the role of the INFLIBNET Centre, while Mr. Prakash Sarda (M/s eGalactic) and Mr. Henning Sall (URKUND) have conducted detailed hands-on training sessions. The programme has remained highly interactive and has included engaging question-and-answer sessions to address participants’ queries.
A total of 93 participants from 35 Universities and 15 CFTIs, including faculty members, librarians, and academic administrators, have attended the training. The programme has proven to be a fruitful and enriching initiative, further strengthening awareness and capacity for promoting originality, research ethics, and academic excellence across higher education institutions.
