Correspondence of Foundation Day Celebration 1993

In his Foundation Day Lecture, Dr. Ashok Ganguly highlights the critical milestones in India's economic and social development, comparing 1993 to the pivotal year of 1991. He discusses India's transition from a self-reliance model to a more globally integrated economy, which began earnestly in 1991. The initial response to this shift has been largely positive both within India and abroad, with increased optimism and improvements in exports and trade balance. However, some doubts persist regarding the speed and process of liberalization, particularly among those who have benefitted from the previous self-reliance model. Despite this, Dr. Ganguly emphasizes that India’s potential for growth is vast, and while the world is focused on economic challenges, India remains a prime destination for investment. The future of India's growth will depend on how the country leverages its strengths, independent of external perceptions or actions.
