Prof. Sher Singh (born:11 August 1917-death:5 September 2009) from village Baghpur, Tehsil Beri, District Jhajjar, Haryana. His father's name was Choudhary Sheesh Ram Kadian.
He was Deputy Chief Minister in Punjab in the fifties when Pratap Singh Kairon was the Chief Minister. He was a visionary leader in shaping of Haryana, like Sir Chhotu Ram.
Education: Prof. Sher Singh passed his Matriculation Examination from Govt. School, Beri. He passed his F.A. examination from Pilani. He passed BA (Hons) and M.A. in mathematics from Ramjas College, Delhi.
Freedom Fighter:
Prof. Sher Singh made his valuable contribution in Hyderabad Movement, Hindi Andolan and Prohibition Movement. At a time when the society was in the grab of casteism and low-caste Harijans were not allowed to use the common well for drinking water, on 26 January 1929 his father Ch. Sheesh Ram Arya and his uncle (Tau) Ch. Harnarayan Arya constructed a well on their own land in Baghpur village and offered free access to water to Harijans. On this issue, they had to face social boycott.
He jumped into freedom movement during his student life and held the posts of Secretary of Jat Students Federation and President of All India Students Federation. In 1936, he started writing articles for journals and his first article in Pt. Shri Ram Sharma's newspaper "Haryana Tilak" became the bone of contention in the eyes of British Raj. In 1946, he was elected for Lahore Assembly.
Death: Prof. Sher Singh breathed his last on Saturday , 5 September 2009 in Delhi.
